When someone asks you, "how much can you lift?" what do you tell them? Do you tell them you do calf raises with 250 pounds? Or do you tell them that you do alternating dumbbell curls with 40 pounds? Probably neither. Chances are you tell them how much you can bench press. The bench press is the king of exercises for men all over the world. In certain social circles it is used as a factor by which to rate one's manliness or self worth. It is no surprise then that men (and some women) from all walks of life treat the bench press as the most important exercise and strive hard to increase the amount of weight they can handle.
